Salt flats may not be beautiful to look at on a hot dry day, but after it rains, the salt flats transform into a reflective mirror creating stunning art photography – as if standing on clouds.
However, as a newbie painter, I didn’t think I could capture such an amazing occurrence with a brush. Maybe someday, but not today.
Today…it’s just plain, dry, hot salt flats.
The Process…
I began by painting the background.

Then, with light-weight spackle, I added the salt flats…

To be honest, I was perfectly fine with this, but I was encouraged to paint the salt-flats a mud-like color.

Now, as you can imagine, I know nothing about “color theory” yet, so while this may not be a mud-like color, I certainly did make a muddy mess of colors to get there.
It gave it a rocky kind of appearance, which is cool too.
I love how the right side of the mountains came out! I couldn’t quite replicate the same effect on the left side though. Oh well, it just takes practice! 😊 This is, after all, a journey!
