Santorini is a volcanic Greek island located in the southern portion of the Aegean Sea. It is widely known for its vibrant whitewashed buildings and blue accent doors and domes. It is also known for incredible sunsets, where the sun majestically sinks into the dark blue flat Aegean Sea.
I always told myself, that ‘If I were ever to get into painting, Santorini would be the first thing I would try to paint’…and I did!
This was my very first painting!
I remember opening the package of paint supplies and feeling extremely intimidated by so many different types of paint brushes! For all I knew, a brush was a brush.
Originally, I had drawn a very detailed door, but it didn’t look right just painting within the lines. So, I painted over it and this, very simple door, appears to have been the better choice.
I am learning that painting is an art that requires venturing outside the lines, far from what we were taught as kids!
Of course I love my first painting (that’s all that really matters), but I do regret not using Titanium White for the building. When I painted this, I didn’t know about the color Titanium White, which would have made it much more vibrant.
